The Ocean Institute

Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and coastal mountains, The Ocean Institute has very obvious natural features to take its visual cues from. Its wooden clad exterior, and plethora of windows, both to take in ocean views and to bathe the interior in sunshine, is the quintessential style of seaside buildings. Multi-level rooflines and articulations create the look of a university library. If someone were to close their eyes and imagine the headquarters of Jean Michel Cousteau or Steve Zizou, this may just be that building. (2018)
